21The Lord said to Moses,

22"Take a census also of the Gershonites by their families and clans.

23Count all the men from thirty to fifty years of age who come to serve in the work at the tent of meeting. - P130

29"Count the Merarites by their clans and families.

30Count all the men from thirty to fifty years of age who come to serve in the work at the tent of meeting.

31As part of all their service at the tent, they are to carry the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, posts and bases, - P131

God instructs Moses to count the Gershonites and Merarites, assigning themspecific duties related to the tabernacle. The Gershonites are responsible fortransporting the tent, coverings, and hangings, while the Merarites handle theframes, pillars, and bases. Each family is given detailed instructions on theirtasks to ensure proper care and transportation of the tabernacle. - P131

God assigns us specific responsibilities in His church and sometimes, like the Gershonites, our responsibilities may require us to work ahead of everyone else. Rather than resenting having to begin earlier or do more than others, we should remember that God does not need our service but accepts it as part of our worship. - P132

It is an honor to participate in God’s work of building up His people. Let us take pride in our responsibilities and be eager to carry them out! - P132

Once again, God instructs Moses to "assign to each man the specific things he is to carry" (v. 32) This is significant because, unlike the Gershonites, who are assigned duties as a group, the Merarites are assigned specific tasks as individuals. - P132

When we are assigned specific, individual responsibilities, fulfilling them becomes all the more important for the life of the community. We may be assigned seemingly small tasks, like carrying a piece of rope, or the heaviest tasks, like carrying a post. Either way, each of our tasks is meaningful to God when done faithfully in His service. - P132

At this camp, however,
leadership was shared. Each person took responsibility for their tasks, andthere was no pressure on any single individual. Everyone embraced theirrole, and there was no judgment when things did not go perfectly. Thecamp was filled with joy, and by the end, everyone felt a sense of unity andaccomplishment.
This experience was deeply healing for me. It reminded me that, as mem-bers of the body of Christ, we all have a unique role to play.  - P133

We don‘t needto compare ourselves to others or judge their shortcomings or even ourown. When we faithfully do our part as God has called us to, He will useour teamwork for His glory, taking each of our efforts and weaving themtogether into something beautiful.  - P133

Let us not reject or feel weighed downby the work God has given us; instead, let us find joy in the honor of beingpart of His masterpiece! - P133

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me a specific task in building up Your people. - P133

When I feel burdened by the weight of serving those around me, remind me of the joy of serving You. Let every act of service I carry out be worship to You. In Jesus’ name, amen. - P133

John 3:30 NLT
[30] He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
- P102

John 3:29 NLT
[29] It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the bridegroom’s friend is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. - P102

Numbers 4:1-3 NLT
[1] Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, [2] "Record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Kohathite division of the tribe of Levi. [3] List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle.

- P124

Numbers 4:15 NLT
[15] The camp will be ready to move when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the sacred articles. The Kohathites will come and carry these things to the next destination. But they must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die. So these are the things from the Tabernacle that the Kohathites must carry.
- P126

Numbers 4:16 NLT
[16] "Eleazar son of Aaron the priest will be responsible for the oil of the lampstand, the fragrant incense, the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil. In fact, Eleazar will be responsible for the entire Tabernacle and everything in it, including the sanctuary and its furnishings." - P127

Numbers 4:17-19 NLT
[17] Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, [18] "Do not let the Kohathite clans be destroyed from among the Levites! [19] This is what you must do so they will live and not die when they approach the most sacred objects. Aaron and his sons must always go in with them and assign a specific duty or load to each person.
- P127

God instructs Moses to take a census of the Kohathites,Gershonites, andMerarites, the three Levitical clans tasked with the care of the tabernacle.
The Kohathites are responsible for the sacred objects, the Gershonites for thetent coverings and curtains, and the Merarites for the tabernacle‘s structure.
Specific duties are assigned to each group. - P125

The consequences are severe for any of the Kohathites who tries to do thework of the priests. God calls each of us to a special place of service in Hischurch and kingdom. It is important that we maintain our place.  - P128

46To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites,

47collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs.

48Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons." - P119

The Israelites did all this just as the LORD commanded Moses. - Numbers 1:54 - P121

The place of firstborn represents the first and best of God’s blessings among His people. Because of this, every firstborn is to be dedicated and given to the Lord. - P120

Firstborn male children, however, are not offered as sacrifices. Instead they are redeemed by the Levites, who belong to the Lord and are devoted to His service. Since the number of firstborn males exceeds the number of Levites, they are redeemed with a specific redemption price. - P120

Ultimately, this practice points us to the ministry of Jesus, the one the New Testament calls the firstborn of God (Heb. 1:6), who gave His life as a ransom for us.
- P120

Hebrews 1:6 NLT
[6] And when he brought his supreme Son into the world, God said, "Let all of God’s angels worship him."
- P120

As we give a portion of these things to God, we can be certain thatHe will honor our sacrifice. He will return to us more than we can possiblythink or imagine.  - P120

To fail to sacrificially give is to miss out on God‘s plansand blessings on our lives. Even worse, refusing to give for the edificationof God‘s people causes us to become spiritually stagnant and unfruitful. - P120

Lord Jesus, You gave Yourself unreservedly and completely for me. I am humbled by the price You willingly paid. May my life be a sacrifice of all I am, have, and hope to be in the service of Your kingdom. In Your name, I pray, amen. - P120

1 Corinthians 3:3 NLT
[3] for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world? - P101
