7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so,

We can always trust that God’s ways are higher, wiser, and better. We have the cross as evidence of this. - P46

The abundance of the new wine points to the abundance of grace which Christ now brings.  - P46

41The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). - P35

John recognizes Jesus as "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (v. 29). - P36

Two lives with two purposes are revealed in this passage. Jesus has come for the purpose of being slain for the sin of the world, and John has come to help others recognize Him who would be slain. - P36

Recognizing the Lamb and fol-lowing Him equates to a decisive life change. Jesus would later teach thatwe cannot serve two masters (Matt. 6:24). If Jesus is Lord, then He is Lordof all of our lives, not just some parts. - P36

21They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."

22Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" - P30

23John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’" - P24

26"I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know.

27He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie." - P31

John does not shy away from the confrontation. He confesses freely that he is not trying to gain any fame by claiming to be the Messiah, Elijah, or another specific prophet. - P32

He is baptizing with water as a sign of purification, but the Messiah will come to fully cleanse the people of their sins. When Christians are baptized today, we recognize that our old life of sin is of the past and that we now have a new life in Christ. - P32

Each day, we have the grace to draw nearer to God and to experience a deeper relationship with Him. - P28

12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. - P26

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. - P27
