This year we received 327 nominated titles from 52 publishers. CT staff selected the top five books in each category, and then panels of judges (one panel for each category) determined the winners. In the end, we honor 23 titles that bring understanding to people, events, and ideas that shape evangelical life, thought, and mission. We also include our judges' comments on the winners.

독자 : 오마샨 부인, 부인께서는 [아내의 기도로 남편을 돕는다]의 저자입니다. 이 책 [남편의 기도로 아내를 돕는다]는 부인의 남편께서 저술했다면 더 공감을 얻지 않았을까요?

저자 : 나도 그렇게 생각했습니다. 하지만 마이클은 다른 남편들처럼 엄청 바쁘죠. 책을 쓸 만큼 인내심도 강하지 않고요. 나는 독자들로부터 이런 책을 집필하라는 열화와 같은 요청을 받고 망설이며 기도했습니다. 기도하면서 남편이 아내를 위해 기도할 제목은 아내가 더 잘 안다는 깨달음을 얻게 됐죠. 그래서 나는 28년 동안의 결혼생활에서 얻은 경험과 여성들을 대상으로 한 조사를 통해서 아내를 위한 기도 제목 20가지를 선정했답니다.

독자 : 그렇군요. 이 책은 어떻게 구성됐나요?

저자 : 전작처럼 각 장은 하나의 주제를 다루고 있습니다. 여성들과의 대화를 통해서 주제와 순서를 정했습니다. 주제는 교인에게 맞게 성경적으로 다루었고 누구나 이해하기 쉽게 실제적으로 다루었죠. 주제를 다루고 나서 남편이 아내를 위해서 기도할 제목을 주었죠. 곧바로 남편들의 간증이 뒤따라 나오고요. 증언을 한 남편들은 10년 이상은 결혼생활을 한 분들이랍니다. 그리고 아내를 위한 남편의 기도문이 나옵니다. 기도 속에는 그 장의 주제가 고스란히 담겨있죠. 마지막으로 도움이 되는 성경 구절들을 수록했습니다. 기도와 생활의 길잡이로 삼으라고 말입니다.

독자 : 알겠습니다. 독자들의 반응이 궁금하군요?

저자 : 아주 좋습니다. 내 작품 중에서 두 번째로 많이 팔렸으니까요. 가장 많이 팔린 책은 1995년에 출판되었고 이 책은 2001년에 출판되었으니 가장 짧은 시간에 가장 많이 팔렸다고 할 수 있겠죠. 감사하게도 이 책이 2002년도 미국 복음주의 기독교 출판협의회 결혼부문에서 금메달을 수상하였답니다. 이 상보다 더한 기쁨은 나의 책을 통해 남편들이 아내를 위하여 효과적으로 기도한다는 점이죠. 기도를 하고 싶어도 무엇을 해야 할지 모르는 남편들이 많았거든요. 남편들이 기도한다면 사탄이 아무리 가정을 파괴하려고 발버둥을 쳐도 끄떡없으리라 확신합니다. 아무튼 나의 두 책은 [화성에서 온 남자 금성에서 온 여자]의 기독교적 버전이라고 생각하면 되겠습니다. 감사합니다.

행복한 가정을 세우는 40일 새벽기도

이동원 목사는 가정 사역 분야의 개척자이다. 그는 가정 세미나를 통해 한국교회에 가정 사역을 소개하였다. 송길원 목사는 가정 사역을 한국 교회의 주요 현안으로 발전시켰다. 그는 가정 사역 연구소(현 하이패밀리)를 설립하고 가정 사역의 이론과 실제를 결합한 프로그램을 계발하고 있다. 이들 1세대와 2세대 가정 사역자들이 손을 잡고 위기에 빠진 가정을 구출하기 위하여 [행복한 가정을 세우는 40일 새벽기도] 교재를 발간하였다. 이 교재는 가정의 기초를 놓는 주간과 남성과 아버지를 위한 주간과 여성과 어머니를 위한 주간과 자녀교육을 위한 주간과 노인과 부모를 위한 주간과 가정의 비전을 나누는 주간으로 구성되었다. 매 과 마다 행복의 인사와 예배에의 부름과 예배를 여는 찬송과 용서를 구하는 기도와 말씀을 기다리며와 새벽이슬과 같은 말씀과 말씀에 응답하는 다짐과 기도와 예배를 닫는 찬송과 파송의 말씀과 축복의 기도로 이루어졌다. 새벽 기도시간뿐만 아니라 가정 예배에도 소그룹 예배에도 심지어 공식적인 예배에도 손색이 없을 정도로 알차게 집필되었다. 나는 오늘 오후에 셋째 날을 읽었다. 하나님의 가정 설계 두 번째였다. 나는 말씀을 읽으면서 고개를 갸웃거렸다. 본문은 창세기 2장 19절에서 23절까지였다. 저자들은 하나님께서, 아담이 자신에게만 짝이 없다는 것을 발견하기를 기다리셨다고 말했다. 저자들은 하나님께서, 아담이 빈자리를 발견하기를 기다렸듯이 배우자가 필요를 발견하고 변할 때까지 기다려 주는 것이 진정한 사랑이라고 적용하였다. 저자들은 아담의 발견에 초점을 맞췄다. 나는 고든 웬함의 WBC 창세기 1권을 찾아보았다. 웬함 박사는 (아담이 빈자리를 발견한 것이 아니라) 하나님께서 보시기에 사람이 혼자 사는 것이 좋지 않았다고 주석하였다. 웬함 박사는 하나님의 발견에 초점을 맞췄다. 그리고 저자들은 아담이 하와를 보고 이는 내 뼈 중의 뼈요 살 중의 살이라고 말한 것을 가지고 아담이 하나님께서 가장 좋은 것을 공급해 주셨다고 믿었다고 적용하였다. 웬함 박사는 남자의 갈빗대로 여자를 창조한 것은 친족 관계를 표현하는 관용구라고 인용하였다. 이런 관용구는 남자와 여자가 동등한 관계라는 의미로 받아들여진다고 주석하였다. 저자들은 하와를 하나님께서 주신 가장 좋은 것이라기보다 여자는 남자와 동등한 존재로 창조되었다고 적용했어야 했다. 저자들의 성경 해석과 적용에 무리가 있지만 이 과에 해당하는 옥의 티인지 모른다. 통계청이 지난 3월 31일 발표한 ‘2004년 혼인, 이혼 통계’에 따르면 우리나라는 작년 한해에 13만 9365쌍이 이혼하였다. 하루 평균 381건 이었다. 하늘 높은 줄 모르고 치솟던 이혼율이 떨어진 수치가 이 정도라니 이혼은 더 이상 비교인의 이야기가 아님을 알 수 있다. 이런 때에 이 교재가 출판된 것은 가정을 회복시키려는 하나님의 계획이라고 믿는다. 이 교재를 통해 카운슬러를 찾아가던 발걸음이 가정을 발명하신 하나님의 말씀에 귀를 기울였으면 좋겠다.

나에게 집을 그려보라면 무심코 지붕부터 그린다. 건축업자에게 그려보라면 십중팔구는 기초부터 다진다. 기초가 튼튼해야 무너지지 않기 때문이다. 그렇다면 신앙의 집을 지으려는 사람들이 다져야 할 기초는 무엇일까? 구원론이다. 구원론은 신앙의 터파기 작업이다. 저자는 구원론이란 신학용어로 말문을 열지 않는다. 그러면 교인들에게 한정된 책이 되기 때문이다. 저자는 사람들에게는 어떤 갈망이 있다는 말로 탐구를 시작한다. 사람들은 이 세상에 있는 그 어떤 것으로 이 갈망을 충족하려 한다. 그러나 채워지지 않는다. 이 갈망은 이 세상 너머에 있는 그 어떤 것으로 라야 채울 수 있기 때문이다. 그리스인들은 이 대상을 인간의 이해를 초월하여 존재하는 어떤 ‘미지의 신’으로 생각했다.(행17:23) 그러나 바울은 그 미지의 신이 하나님이며 마침내 하나님께서 사람에게 나타나셨다고 말했다. 그 분은 예수 그리스도시다. 오직 그분만이 사람들의 갈망을 충족하실 필요충분조건이시다. 그분은 영원히 목마르지 않는 물이시며 영원히 배고프지 않는 빵이시다. 이 책은 앉은 자리에서 읽을 정도로 간결하다. 초신자도 이해할 정도로 명쾌하다. 조직신학자의 작품답게 심오하다. 그리고 크리스채니티 투데이 영성부문 도서상 수상작답게 탁월하다. 저자의 논리를 따라가다 보면 구도자들은 예수님을 구세주로 영접하게 되고 기신자들은 구원론을 정립하게 된다. 저자는 탁월한 건축업자다.
